How to Roast Chestnuts in the Oven

Step TwoClean off chestnuts.

Step ThreeUse a sharp paring knife to cut an X into one side of each chestnut, or prick chestnuts with a fork to allow steam to escape.

Step Four Arrange chestnuts on a baking sheet or in a shallow pan, with the cut or pricked sides up.

Step Five Roast in oven for 15 to 25 minutes, or until chestnuts are tender and easy to peel.

Step Six Peel nuts when they are cool enough to handle, and enjoy

OMG we do this every year

set oven to 425 and take the chestnut, creat a slit in the middle of it (don't go all the way through) and back until soft (maybe 20 minutes of so)
Reply:On a shallow tray in the oven or whole with shell on under the grill but watch them like hawks, they catch very easily!
Reply:Bake them in an oven on a cookie sheet for about a half hour at 350 degrees. I warn you, though, roasted chestnuts don't taste as good as they're cracked up to be!
Reply:In the Oven
Reply:Make a bag of tin foil - place nuts in it - close bag ensure air space. Wack in hot oven (200deg C )for 20 min or so ( The bag is to stop the nut roasting too fast and/or exploding their insides over your oven)
Reply:Yep as said flat on a cookie sheet.

400 degrees 20 minutes making sure to

make two small slits.
Reply:never never try the oven, i did this once, i heard them popping, opened the oven. bloody hell ruined me kitchen and oven, at least on the open fire they have room to explode, up the chimney. When i was a kid, about 7, i bit into one that was roasted on an open fire on a shovel, exploded in my mouth. spent the evening in hospital, was OK, but bloody burnt my mouth. do not trust chestnuts, their like grenades
Reply:UHHHH.....WHAT!!!????
Reply:You can cook them in a hot oven (Gas Mark 6).

They also cook quite well in the microwave - but make sure you spike a hole in them first or they'll explode. The only drawback is you don't get the crunchy black bits.
Reply:Well in the oven but they tend to bang and pop The ossasional one explodes
Reply:oven (roast) DOUNUT
Reply:Boil them for 20 Min's then peel, put them in the frying pan with a knob of butter then eat or save in a sandwich bag and reheat for Christmas dinner
Reply:try the oven
Reply:on a cookie sheet in the oven.
Reply:In the oven or a toaster oven. If you don't have one of those you can do it on a grill. Just make sure you put them in a metal cooking sheet or pan.
