How do you make a chestnut into a great "conker"?

Do you soak them and if so in what.

How do you make a chestnut into a great "conker"?
just find a roundish stone and paint it like a conker
Reply:They did this one on Brainiac. The winner was the "Last Year's winner", ie not messed with, just a proven track record. The runner up was (I think) the one soaked in handcream overnight - the softness made it bouncier, I think.
Reply:Ive heard you soak them in vinegar
Reply:Bake it and then coat it in clear varnish.
Reply:Soak in vinegar for a week. Allow to dry naturally over a period of 2-3 months.
Reply:Hmmn I think kids at school used to soak them in vinegar and then dry them out, or boil them. then you'd either coat them in PVA glue over and over, and let it dry, or varnish it, perhaps with clear nail varnish. I mean, it's technically cheating, but it makes your game last longer if you've both prepared the same way!
Reply:roast them in the oven-or u could put them in the freezer?i dont know if that would work?
Reply:soak overnight in vinegar, then roast in a low oven
Reply:i to remember soaking them in vinigar but i never did any good with them.
