Will a chestnut tree grow near a black walnut tree?

i know there are various plants that do well when planted near a black walnut and others that will just die off. i can't find any info about chestnuts though.

Will a chestnut tree grow near a black walnut tree?
I presume you mean the Horse Chestnut or conker tree?

In the USA they call it the Buckeye.

The site below says it can be grown near a Black Walnut.

You have to consider how close is "near"?

Black Walnuts are toxic to many plants, shrubs and trees. It also spreads its toxicity to the soil via its roots and from water dripping off the canopy (drip line). Some won't grow within 50 feet of the drip line and even further if they are below the tree ie on a slope.

Another problem is that new growth near a tree that poisons the soil etc, will often do well for a couple of years and then just die.

My advice would be to plant only if you are prepared to lose the tree.
