Do chestnut trees in public parks products edible and safe chestnuts? I see a lot of them on the ground?

They look like chestnuts only still a bit soft. I wonder if these are the same ones we buy in supermarkets

no they are horse chestnuts and they are not edible and in fact poisonous, you need chestnuts fromthe European Chestnut tree to eat, to distinguish the difference horse chestnuts (conkers) are basically round where as the edible chestnuts have a definate point to their shape

Reply:No they do not. what you see is Horse Chestnuts which are not edible. (horse chestnuts are rounder and don't come to a sharp point). they're great though for blowing up in a fire... don't try this in a microwave.
Reply:I seriously doubt it. i wouldn't try it. Sometimes they spray the trees with pesticides n it could be hazardous to your health.
Reply:Those are probably horse chestnuts - they look similar, but definitely not edible.
Reply:No,they are horse chestnuts,definitely inedible.Some kids make a hole through them,then thread a string through the hole,.and they then have a conker,which can be used in a game of "conkers".
Reply:If they are Sweet Chestnut trees then the nuts are edible, if, and this is more likely, they are Horse Chestnuts, then you definitely won't want to eat those. More use as 'conkers'.





Whatever, perhaps it's better to buy your chestnuts than risk eating anything you are not 100% sure about. Don't poison yourself for the price of a bag of chestnuts.
