Is it ok to dye blonde hair light brown then chestnut brown? How long should I wait between colouring?

Ok, I need some help!

My hair is originally dark blonde, but it's dyed light blonde. I'd like to go brown, preferably medium chestnut brown, but not sure how to go about it, or if it's possible. Would I be able to dye it light brown first, then put the chestnut color on top?

You can go straight to the chestnut brown. You don't have to dye it twice to get the color results you want. Whether you color at home or get it done professionally at a salon, all it would take is adding the right color to your hair.

However, you need to know that lighter hair, especially hair that's been dyed, absorbs the dye at a faster rate. You may want to think about a temporary color to try out first. Going darker is much more difficult to adjust to than going lighter. You can end up with uneven color, it's difficult to re-lighten hair, and can sometimes result in off-tone color. Plus, you may not like it once you've dyed it to the chestnut.

If you dye your own hair, try Clairol's Natural Instincts, a semi-permanent (lasts about a month or 28 shampoos) dye that comes in a wide array of colors.

You should wait 6 weeks in between colorings to keep the damage to your hair at a minimum.
Reply:Go ahead and get it colored chestnut brown, dont worry about doing an in-between color. Going darker, you don't need to do that, you can pick any shade you want. Herbal Essences haircolors are good; the Feria multifaceted ones are excellent and look natural; but go to a professional if you can afford it. Take a photo with you when you go of the exact color you want so there is no misunderstanding. That is the best way to get natural looking, lasting haircolor. Then follow up with a shampoo that is especially for color-treated hair, to keep your color looking fresh and natural. I like Garnier Fructis or Herbal Essences. Hope this helps!
Reply:ok, be careful if you pick a shade with red, it might grab mor red in your bloner areas. u should really go to a salon and let a professional help you. not herbal essence crap, or garnier. there is a reason they have professionals, if u mess it up you will have to go to them to fix it anyway and you will end up paying double.
Reply:i am a hairdresser ,and i strongly advise you to carefully choose your browns . you absolutly must select a brown with either a gold or red base it will read warm golden brown or reddish brown. if you put any ash or cool browns on your hair you will come up with either green or blue hair . trust me i know what im talking about -good luck
