Whats the best time to move a horse chestnut (concker tree)?

I have a horse chestnut tree which Ive grown myself which needs moving. Its around 10 years old and has reached 6ft but its too close to our garage.

When is the best time to move it to a better location?

I'd wait until the sap has stopped rising, as it were. If you wait until the autumn it will have a better chance of bedding in over the winter and surviving till the spring. Don't forget to feed it well when you've moved it.
Reply:Far easier to chop that one down and plant a new one.
Reply:In the autumn after leaf fall

Reply:I have a conker tree which my kids planted when we moved into this house nearly 16 years ago (they also planted a toy car and a sweet and some money, unfortunately only the conker grew. A money tree would have been very handy)

Because Horse Chestnut trees grow so big (their root systems will be as large as their top growth ) I transferred it to a tub and transfer it to a larger tub every couple of years around March time. This keeps it in a minaturised form and also means that I can move it around the garden if I wish to.
Reply:Half past tree.
